"Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset." Saint Francis De Sales

Friends, Audrey & Camping

**********

Last Saturday was our annual “Beach Party” gathering in support of the
American Frontier Culture Foundation, Inc. in Staunton, Virginia. There was plenty of food, drink and dancing with music by The Original Rhondels.
The evening was pleasant, no rain and plenty of friends.

We are getting ready to put together a garage/yard sale. Dee will be gathering neighbors to join us. More details as she brings everything together.

Details and date to follow.

Nouriel, Da Heat & Old Dogs

**********

I finished reading “The Harbinger,” by Jonathan Cahn.

The main character is a writer named Nouriel. He is visited by a prophet who takes him on a journey “that holds the secret of America’s future …”

One that ties the Biblical events from the Book of Isaiah and Israel to historical events here in America. Nouriel must learn about the harbingers and try to solve the answer of each one.

It is an adventure worth reading about.

So, how hot is it?

“It is so hot… the trees are whistling for the dogs.”

“It is so hot… I saw a chicken lay a fried egg.”

“It is so hot… the birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.”

“If it gets any hotter, I’ll have to take off stuff I really ought to keep on.”

I finished Season 8 of Game of Thrones. Although Episode 3, "The Long Night," was long for me. The "dead" were too numerous, the fires only partially successful and I've no idea where Ayra Stark came from.

My favorite character continues to be Tyrion Lannister. The man who drinks wine and knows things. Even in the end when faced with being executed, he is able to bring the leaders together, establish a new king and become the "King's Hand."

Me & Tee, Da Market & Terri

I really liked that sport coat.

**********

I am not pleased with the results of Wednesday’s market drop.
I did find some relief after reading Barbara Kollmeyer’s article, “Forget the yield curve, here’s who will prevent the U.S. from entering a recession.”

“Critical information for the U.S. trading day

Stop obsessing over the yield curve and its power to predict a recession.

That's our call of the day's message, from The Economic Outlook Group's chief global economist Bernard Baumohl, who says rising expectations of a global downturn are becoming a little nutty.

This comes a day after recession mongers leapt on the spread between the 10-year and the 2-year Treasury note yield , which briefly inverted Wednesday. For those of you who missed the significance of that move, it's a recessionary red flag that has predicted some past downturns. Stocks wasted no time in adding to August's losses.

Back to Baumohl's argument, who suggests looking past that argument: "The key determinant that will shape the path of the economy this time won't be the yield curve or the direction of the fed-funds rate. It's the extent to which American consumers will offset the damage done by policies that impede world trade and reverse globalization," he told clients in a note.

"All eyes should therefore be laser focused on what households are thinking and doing in the coming months--- and not on some tampered yield curve…………”

The complete article here.

And, it wouldn’t hurt for us to ask God for some help.

I’ve been having problems with my right wrist and finally went to the orthopedic doctor to have it checked out. After an X-ray and examination by the doctor the following diagnosis was given.

“Mild radius scaphoid narrowing no acute process minimal degenerative
changes with a mottled appearance to the carpus.”

The result was a wrist guard and an anti-inflammatory medication. Everything should be back to normal in about three weeks.

Excuses, Nez Perce & Historicon

**********

I have missed a few weeks of writing. Trips, projects and other busy things. Nothing specific, just a bunch of stuff mixed in with a touch of laziness and perhaps poor planning.

**********

On August 9, 1877 a band of Nez Perce fought with the U.S. Army at what is called the Battle of Big Hole. Afterward they headed north planning to cross into Canada. Unfortunately they never made it.

Learn more about the Nez Perce at their website.

Historicon 2019 was held at the Lancaster County Convention Center this year. It is a large, beautiful facility attached to the Marriott at Penn Square. Dee, our granddaughter Eryn and I stayed there, Eryn enjoying the indoor swimming pool.

My friend Bob and I had a table for "Wally's Basement," flea market. We both sold  a lot of our old books and figures, making those who bought them happy for the great prices.

We are looking forward to attending next year and hope to have all three granddaughters, along with our son Todd, attending.

Eryn is advising me how to best position my troops for a final assault.
**********

Dee and I are downsizing. It is a single story home with a loft over the garage. The loft will be my new hobby room. We are still in the "beginning stages," but hope to have the home completed by early spring. I'll provide more information as we move forward.

"August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
Expected,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away."
